Don't make these 5 skincare mistakes

Everyone’s skincare routine is a little different, and there isn’t just one right way to care for your skin. However, there are a few things that everyone should consider when it comes to skincare. So don’t make these five mistakes in skincare.

Don’t leave makeup on

After a long day, it’s not always fun to remove your makeup. Regardless of the cleansing method, we always recommend cleansing the face from makeup and dirt, so that no harmful bacteria can grow on the skin. At this point, makeup wipes are better than nothing.

These can lead to dull skin, irritation and even blemishes. We also recommend always cleansing waterproof makeup with an oil-based product. It is difficult to remove, for example, waterproof mascara with just a cleansing gel. And thus, the condition of the eyelashes can quickly deteriorate.

Don’t over-cleanse the skin

Many people like the feeling when their skin is squeaky clean. However, this can be harmful for many skin types. Using a cleansing product that is too strong or has a high pH can take away not only excess oil but also essential oils for the skin. In this case, the skin barrier is damaged and the skin is exposed to external aggressors, dryness and impurities.

Oily and combination skin often needs a gel cleanser and tolerates it well. For normal and dry skin, a milky cleanser is better. If you feel that a milky cleanser alone is not enough, wash your face first with an oil-based product instead of changing the milk to a stronger gel.

Don’t over-exfoliate the skin

In social media, you often see skincare routines where they exfoliate their skin daily with several different products. Very few people need daily exfoliation, at least with strong products. Gentle daily exfoliation or stronger exfoliation 1-3 times a week is a better choice for most people.

If your cleansing product already exfoliates your skin, you may not need an exfoliating serum. However, some people’s skin benefits from stronger daily exfoliation or from using, for example, an exfoliating cleansing product and a serum. Dry, sensitive or young skin does not necessarily need to exfoliate the skin at all.

Don’t forget the moisturizer

Many people with oily skin skip the moisturizer in their skincare. The idea is that oily skin wouldn’t need moisture and especially no more oils. It is true that oily skin does not necessarily need more oils, but the hydration needs to be locked in somehow at the end of the routine.

A gel cream or a low-oil moisturizer both work well for oily skin as well. For other skin types, oils are important in moisturizer. In the morning, sunscreen can also replace moisturizer for oily and combination skin.

Don’t forget the sunscreen

Although there is no sunscreen in Smuuti’s selection yet, it is still one of the most important steps in skincare. Daily sunscreen protects the skin from premature aging and from unnecessary skin concerns. For skin health, however, it is sufficient to use sunscreen whenever the UV index is above 3.

In this case, the skin is safe from burning, which in turn prevents skin damage and reduces the risk of skin cancer. The skin should never burn, nor should it even tan in the sun. It is also important to reapply sunscreen throughout the day if you spend several hours in the sun.
